I think back on those dark days when I was going through radiation and chemotherapy, when life didn’t feel familiar and lacked the sweetness I preferred. All I wanted in that moment was to be my old self again. With great impatience, I couldn’t find it in me to honor the stillness, the dormancy, the break down, the shift.

Although I laid in bed, saddened and alone day after day, unbeknownst to me, there was something magnificent happening inside my soul. Like a caterpillar that retreats to later emerge a beautifully transformed butterfly with wings to soar and freedom to explore, I too, had a rebirth joining the world again, this time as a more profound version of myself.

A Survivor.
