Epilogue

Published on September 29, 2016 by Jenn and Peter

Peter:

Epilogue comes from the Greek word epilogus meaning the conclusion of a speech. Jenn is going to hate this, but I am Greek and I will be telling our boys all the time what words have Greek origins (just like Gus Portokalos in My Big Fat Greek Wedding). It will drive the twins crazy too, but such is life with a Greek Dad. Opa!

Deuces Wild

Well, we are pregnant. This we know.

That written, is it a singleton or a starting five in there? We transferred two embryos. That means the math can go a lot of ways. Two can equal one. Two can equal two or three or four. With my first Beta test being 760 most people wouldn't put their money on a singleton.

From the Outside

A member of the SCRC team remembers her introduction to and recaps her relationship with SCRC patients Jenn and Peter:

When I first met Peter, I immediately knew that I was in the company of what is referred to as "good people." His laid back demeanor and warm personality make him very easy to connect with. We were brought in contact to work on a project for Southern California Reproductive Center and not long after meeting, Peter shared with me how he came in contact with the clinic.

Sisterly Love

Published on September 1, 2016 by Jenn and Peter

Peter:

You are going to need your community supporting you. Share and ask for support when you need it. In our case we've had some amazing love and support throughout this journey from amazing friends and family. For example, my sister, KayMaria, has been a rock for us. Steve Jobs liked to wear a different Miyake sweater every day and Churchill liked to conduct meetings naked. Heidi Klum carries a bag containing her baby teeth. Anytime Franz Kafka finished a story, he allowed himself to eat a whole pineapple upside down cake all by himself without sharing any with anyone else, not even a bite.

The Infertility Club

If you got pregnant naturally you are not in this club. You are one of what we call the "lucky ones." You will never really know what it's like to walk in our shoes. We do appreciate all of your love and support though, but until you've gone through it, well, you just can't know.

You are going to end up at Buy Buy Baby at some point with one of those scan guns in your hands setting up a registry. You are going to know more about Bugaboo and Stokke than you ever imagined. You are going to start talking about whether you like the name Olivia for a girl or Jackson for a boy.

What I'm about to share is not recommended by doctors, but I was anxious. Plus I'm a control freak.

Patience Is a Virtue

Published on July 21, 2016 by Jenn and Peter

...And the best things in life are worth waiting for. Blah blah blah.

What I am learning from the experience of using an egg donor is that you need lots of patience. I'm talking Zen Buddhist levels of patience. Golden Retriever patience. The egg donor experience is way more outside your control than IVF.
